I don't know who needs to hear this - but don't give up! - Yasmin Boland

A little story.

I was talking to my hubby about it this morning. It’s about seeing my Moonology Diary 2021 at the top of various Amazon astrology best-seller lists.

I remember when I was trying so hard to get books published.

I remember when I was just SO excited just to be on Amazon at all!

I wrote a novel which came out in 2000 and which did OK (not least because it was optioned by Working Title!!!) but it kind of came and went without setting the world on fire.

I wrote a second novel, which also came out (both were with Penguin) which pretty much came and went too. And I can tell you, it’s SUCH a big deal to write a book – any book – in terms of how long it takes. How “£$”£” long it takes! So much love, so much editing, so much everything!

And then my book Moonology came out in July 2016 and instantly everything felt different. It happened to be published on the day of a most auspicious planetary alignment and I remember feeling like this was going to be totally different.

For a start, I had written those novels as a sort of challenge to myself. The first one was from my heart, the second one was because I had a two-book deal. I love them both equally but they were really something I did as an experiment, because I just LOVE to write.

But Moonology was different

But Moonology was different because it combined my passion for writing with my passion for astrology and the Moon. And it took off like a firework – at this stage has been in the Amazon astrology best-sellers for a gob-smacking 230 weeks and counting (I just worked it out!)

The funny thing is I was so burned by the failure-to-ignite of my first few books that I almost gave up writing books. It felt very hard. I was worried that I had put so much love into those first ones and they just – as I said – came and went with no fanfare.

That’s not what anyone wants for their babies and books really are a little bit like babies. They are a creation you produce and send out into the world.

But imagine if I had given up. I really hope this doesn’t sound self-congratulatory but I would have missed out on so many things, including being able to work doing something I love beyond anything else professionally – mixing writing and astrology. I truly love it and I love being in touch with all the people who read my books, I really do.

It makes everything worthwhile.

So if you’re doing something you love and you’re near giving up but you don’t really want to and you think you have it in you to have one more red hot go – go for it!

If you’re wondering if you should leave something behind in 2020 even though there are still more practical steps you can take towards making your dreams come true, please don’t give up.

2021 is all about smashing things – smashing limiting beliefs, among other things.

So take this as a sign! Keep going!

I used to have this printed out in my flat, to contemplate…

“NEVER GIVE UP
No matter what is going on
Never give up
Develop the heart
Too much energy in your country
Is spent developing the mind
Instead of the heart
Be compassionate
Not just to your friends
But to everyone
Be compassionate
Work for peace
In your heart and in the world
Work for peace
And I say again
Never give up
No matter what is going on around you
Never give up”

― Dalai Lama XIV

Part of writing a book is promoting it too by the way. 😃 So it would be remiss of me not to…
