In 2006, I sought out the wisdom of an amazing woman called Glenys Livingstone Ph.D.
I no longer remember how I was lucky enough to get hold of Glenys and her phone number. Glenys has a doctorate in Goddess studies from Berkley University and is one of the most knowledgeable Goddess scholars you could ask to start your Goddess journey with.
With the temerity of the uneducated, I asked Glenys to help me to come up with a list of Goddesses whose energies corresponded with the 12 star signs. You can check out her site here (opens in a new page.)
We chose Goddesses from multiple pantheons.
My belief now is that the Goddess energies we see stronger and stronger today were already rising. Ostensibly I was talking to Glenys because I was writing an article about Goddesses for a women’s magazine all my Aussie friends will remember – Cleo!
But what started out as something so simple for a monthly glossy became sacred.
Pairing the Goddess with the sign energies became a way to create a sort of sacred mala used this way; when one sign is triggered, it’s a time to think about and to connect with the energy of a particular Goddess.
For me, obviously it makes sense to connect with the daily, New or Full Moon is in a particular sign.
This is more or less the list that Glenys and I came up with (I have done some very mild tweaking over the years!):
Aries – Athena. Taurus – Hathor. Gemini – Saraswati. Moonchild/Cancer – Selene. Leo – Medusa. Virgo – Ceres. Libra – Lakshmi. Scorpio – Kali. Sagittarius – Fortuna. Capricorn – Durga. Aquarius – Isis. Pisces – Kuan Yin.
How to tap into the Goddesses …
One of the most magical ways to tap into the Goddess energies is to simply chant their beautiful names at the time that the daily, New or Full Moon is in the sign associated with them.
For example, when the New, Full or Daily Moon is in Scorpio, you could simply chant to Kali, using her name.
Om Kali-yei namaha
Om is the equivalent of picking up the cosmic telephone
Yei added on to a name like this is a more formal way to address a deity
Namaha means you’re offering reverence
Similarly you could chant to Saraswati when the daily, New or Full Moon is in Gemini.
Om Saraswat-yei namaha.
Note that in this case, Saraswati’s name is slightly shortened for ease of pronunciation.
Just light a candle and/or put some oil in the diffuser, and chant. You might also like to research the Goddesses and put a picture of them on your altar.
