Also known as: Fresh Moon · Emu Moon

May wraps the southern mornings in mist. There is a particular quality to the air in this month - cool and fresh and very still, as though the world has taken a long, quiet breath.

The Emu Moon is named for the great Emu in the Sky, a First Nations Australian constellation traced not from stars but from the dark clouds of the Milky Way — a beautiful reminder that meaning lives in the spaces as much as in the light.

This is a Moon of simplicity. After the abundance and heat of summer, after the harvest and the rains of autumn, May arrives as a kind of clearing.

The mist does not obscure - it simplifies. It softens the edges of things, and in that softening, it helps you see what is essential.
