Happy international astrology day!
International astrology day happens on or around this date every year as the Sun moves back into the first sign of the zodiac, Aries.
The Sun – aka the giver of life – takes a year to move through all 12 signs of the zodiac.
Its move back into the first sign of the zodiac, Aries, at around this time every year is seen by many to mark the start of the astrological New Year.
For my money, being an astrologer and a moonologer, I would argue that while the move of the Sun into Aries each year does start a new astrological cycle, it’s actually the New Moon in Aries which is the real start of the new astrological year.
Why?
Because a New Moon brings a REAL new start!
This year, for example, as the Sun moves into Aries today, we are actually in the Waning Cycle of the Moon, which is all about letting things fall away. So while a new cycle is beginning, the old one is still ending. It’s like there is an overlap.
Whereas, of course, the New Moon in Aries, which will take place on April 1, will mark not just the New Moon in the first sign of the zodiac but also the start of the latest Waxing Cycle of the Moon. And the Waxing Cycle is traditionally about what is rising up in us and our lives.
For me, the move of the Sun into Aries today is like bringing the flame to the candle wick, and the New Moon is actually lighting it, if that’s too obscure a metaphor! (Aries is a Fire sign, after all!)
Astrology is magical…
International Astrology Day therefore reminds us that getting in touch with astrology is a magical thing to do for many reasons – not least of which is that is helps us to get in touch with the planet’s rhythms.
Although many governments around the world (including Australia, where I grew up) have shifted the dates of the seasons, the move of the Sun into Aries, (which also heralds the March equinox), traditionally marked the start of spring in the northern hemisphere and autumn in the southern hemisphere.
The ancients knew things we have forgotten…
The ancients knew things we have forgotten – maybe international astrology day is a way for us to remember this.
One last thing to mention – think of today and also, in particular, of the New Moon in Aries on April 1, as your second and even third chances to start all over again in 2022.
God/dess knows we need that more than ever this year!
While New Year (January 1) is great for setting intentions and making resolutions, this new energy now today and on April 1 is also super powerful for starting all over again.
