Super Full Moons are not as rare you are might think. We get up to six Supermoons every year. They occur when a New or Full Moon closely coincides with perigee – the Moon’s closest point to Earth in her monthly orbit.

To be astro-frank, they’re more astronomical than astrological, but they’re fun because a Super Full Moon will look up to 14 per cent larger and 30 per cent brighter than usual. Plus, you have to think that the closer the Moon gets to Earth, the more we feel her powers, agreed?

This Full Moon is in the sign of Virgo, the Priestess, she of home and heart, she the unwed maiden. The word Virgo comes from the Latin ‘unwed’, so if you’re unmarried, this is the time to celebrate it (even if you intend to change that status eventually). For everyone else, it’s the right time to look around your life and see what’s good and what’s not. Virgo is traditionally the sign that’s associated with women who literally sorted the wheat from the chaff, so do that with your life this Full Moon and be clear about what you need to release.

Note that Mercury retrograde also ends this week (on 9 March). That means the time to rethink, revisit and revise is coming to an end, and the time to take action on whatever you’ve been mulling over these past few weeks is approaching. It’s also a powerful week for ‘getting things done’ and for meditation.
