Right now, we’re in the Dark Moon before the New Moon eclipse in Leo.

The Dark Moon is always a time to turn inwards, release the past and prepare for the new lunar cycle. This one feels even more important because it’s happening just before an eclipse.

Think of it as your final chance to release the past before trying to create the future.

This week’s eclipse is activating the South Node, the part of astrology connected to the past. It’s about what we’ve carried with us, what feels familiar and what we probably need to let go of.

Sometimes we say we’re ready for a fresh start. We make our New Moon wishes, visualise the life we want and try to manifest a new timeline.

But somewhere inside, we’re still holding onto the old one.

Maybe you’re still thinking about a relationship that ended years ago. Maybe you’re replaying something you wish you’d done differently. Perhaps you’ve forgiven someone in theory, but you’re still carrying the pain of what happened.

Trying to manifest a new timeline while you’re stuck in the old one is like trying to grow a flower that’s already withered.

Eventually, you have to stop watering what’s already dead.

That may sound harsh, but ask yourself honestly: is there something from your past that you continue to feed with your thoughts, your energy or your attention?

The Dark Moon is the ideal time to acknowledge it and consciously release it.

Do a Dark Moon release ritual

Your ritual doesn’t need to be complicated.

You could burn the old love letters. Delete or archive the photos. Delete the number you already know you shouldn’t be using.

You could write down the story you’re ready to leave behind and safely burn the paper. You might look in the mirror and forgive yourself for the choices you made when you didn’t know what you know now.

You may also decide to forgive someone else.

Forgiveness doesn’t mean pretending that what happened was acceptable. It means deciding that you deserve to be free from carrying it.

The important thing is to make the release conscious. Say out loud what you’re letting go of. Name the old story and decide that you’re ready to stop giving it your energy.

You could say:

I release the past with love. I’m ready to make space for the new life I’m creating.

Then sit for a few moments and imagine the old energy leaving you. Take a deep breath and allow yourself to feel the space you’ve created.

What are you ready to stop watering?

The Dark Moon asks us to be honest about what has run its course.

Is there an old relationship you’re still energetically attached to? An old version of yourself you’ve outgrown? A disappointment you keep revisiting? A fear that’s keeping you attached to the familiar?

You don’t have to work out your entire future today.

For now, focus on releasing what you already know has ended.

Once you’ve cleared that space, you can turn your attention to the New Moon eclipse and the personal restart it’s offering you.

This eclipse will activate a particular part of your birth chart, depending on your birth details. That area of your chart can show you where life is ready to move forwards, especially if you’re willing to release the past first.
