We all have a conscious and subconscious aka unconscious mind …

This is important in manifesting because …

… (to use an example from Module 1 of Ali Campbell’s Hypnotherapy Masterclass which I am currently doing and enjoying hugely…)

  • consciously you might want to win the US Masters or Wimbledon, for example
  • but subconsciously (or unconsciously) you’re ok with coming second or being runner up, because you’re secretly terrified of public speaking and it means you don’t have to get up and give a speech in front of the TV cameras and millions of viewers.

What will you manifest?

For another example;

  • the conscious mind wants to eat less, exercise more and lose weight
  • but the subconscious mind is scared to be too attractive because it brings unwanted attention, for example

So what will happen?

We need to work on our subconscious.

(And in the hypnosis course, which I was gifted), we will learn how to talk to the unconscious. Oooer!!!!)

But back to manifesting… all this ties in what an old meditation teacher of mine used to say…

“There’s always a set-up in your upset”…

Get it?

To use an example from above; the weight is the upset, the set-up is it keeps away unwanted attention.

For another example…

I will always remember talking to a new friend at the ashram in India. Let’s call her Bernadette. I really hope she won’t mind if I tell her story anonymously. We sadly lost touch.

Bernadette, from Switzerland, had been living in New York working too hard. She now had chronic fatigue and was off work.

She had been working as a corporate lawyer in Manhattan, earning $150,000 a year, but it was SO stressful; it brought her to her knees, and now here she was, seeking healing in India …

One day we were having a conversation about her healing, which she said she wanted (which her conscious mind wanted) …

She had come all the way to India for healing, after all.

But it wasn’t happening yet.

I was trying to get to the bottom of it all …

I seem to remember I kept asking her more and more searing questions about healing  (I have been told off for doing this sometimes/not my greatest personality trait but I wanted to get to the bottom of it all if I could …

So I asked more and more and questions …until she finally she blurted out…

“I don’t want to get better!”

I said “Whaaat?”

I asked what she meant.

She said that she didn’t want to get better because she was being paid half her annual salary – so $75,000 USD a year – as sick pay.

Meantime, she was out of the rat race and living in southern India in a wonderful ashram, sleeping half the day and basically doing what she liked, within the bounds of her illness and the ashram.

So though her conscious mind said she wanted to get better, her subconscious didn’t.

And the subconscious runs the show…

The conscious you, in effect, is like a not terribly bright CEO, whose subordinates (the subconscious) do all of the research, draft all of the documents, then lay them out and say, “Sign here, sir.” The CEO does—and takes the credit. – Time.com

While some people talk of the subconscious and unconscious as separate entities, at least for the purposes of hypnosis, we can apparently think of them as more of less the same thing.

From Awaken.com: “The unconscious mind is the storehouse of all memories and past experiences, both those that have been repressed through trauma and those that have simply been consciously forgotten and no longer important to us. It’s from these memories and experiences that our beliefs, habits, and behaviors are formed.”

So in the case of Bernadette, her conscious mind paid lip service and even took itself off to India for a cure, but her subconscious had worked out it literally paid her to stay unwell and unstressed…

Once she realised that she didn’t want to get better because it was easier to be sick, she at least had insight. As I said, we lost touch … but it was one of the most interesting exchanges I have had — the girl who actually didn’t want to get better.

Obviously this is not a blanket thing for anyone with any illness.

But it was a good example in and of itself, I think; of the subconscious and the conscious, and how the subconscious runs the show, or so Ali Campbell teaches us here.

Do you have subconscious programs running you like this?

Could they be messing with your manifesting?

Worth thinking about.

Hopefully this has helped you see this new layer in how manifesting seems to work.

For me it was “Eureka!”
