Let’s talk about the May Goddess energy …
Let’s talk about the amazing Goddess energy that’s around us as the eclipse season which started last month comes to a close. (After this, we won’t have eclipses again until October).
In 2006, I sought out the wisdom of an amazing woman called Dr Glenys Livingstone PhD. Glenys has a doctorate in Goddess studies from Berkley University. I asked her to help me to come up with a list of Goddesses whose energies corresponded with the 12 star signs.
This is more or less what we came up with (I have done some very mild tweaking over the years!):
Aries – Athena. Taurus – Hathor. Gemini – Saraswati. Cancer – Selene. Leo – Medusa. Virgo – Ceres. Libra – Lakshmi. Scorpio – Kali. Sagittarius – Fortuna. Capricorn – Durga. Aquarius – Isis. Pisces – Kuan Yin.
Two of the Goddesses that were easiest to choose – Kali for Scorpio and Saraswati for Gemini – are featured this month.
Kali and the Full Moon in Scorpio
Kali was always going to be the Scorpio Goddess. Why? Because Kali is the destroyer Goddess and Scorpio is the sign that rules life, death and rebirth. These two energies are fearsome in their own way but also to be celebrated.
Think of the phoenix that rises from the ashes and you have a sense of the Kali/Scorpio energy around this month as the Full Moon eclipse takes place in Scorpio. Expect some very powerful energies and the chance to leave the past behind once and for all. Feel your feelings under the Full Moon and ask Kali to help you to process your emotions.
Saraswati and the New Moon in Gemini
Saraswati makes absolute perfect sense as the Goddess associated with the sign of Gemini. Gemini is of course the sign associated with talking, reading, listening and communicating in general. It’s associated with the planet Mercury who is known as the messenger of the Gods. Where Gemini goes, conversation usually follows, and ideas and thoughts and everything cerebral.
Meanwhile Saraswati, who sits on the back of a swan with a veena in her hands, is said to be the Goddess who introduced language to the world. It would be hard to think of a more-Gemini Goddess than the amazing Saraswati who is also about sovereign feminine wisdom – some of which she surely has shared with us through the writings of people inspired by her and through the exchange of ideas that comes with language.
