About 15 years ago, renowned astrologer John Frawley came to my flat for a cup of tea.
John Frawley is one of the leading traditional astrologers on the planet. At the time, he was in Sydney to give a lecture about a particular astrology technique called horary.
As we had a mutual astrologer friend, Kelly Surtees, it transpired that at some point during this visit to Oz, John dropped into my place for tea, along with Kelly. Our conversation was essentially all about the Sun, Moon and Stars.
Before anything else; let’s define “traditional astrologer”.
I am going to turn to a traditional astrologer, Christopher Warnock, for the definition. He writes on his site that “the phase of astrology in Europe from 1200 to 1700 is referred to as traditional astrology.” So traditional astrologers are astrologers who practise astrology more or less as it was practised from 1200 to 1700.
There are big differences in worldviews and techniques, between traditional and modern astrologers. Not least of these differences is that traditional astrologers don’t use Uranus, Neptune and Pluto in their charts, since these planets were not discovered in the time defined as the traditional astrology period.
And so it was that John Frawley was looking at a chart I had cast for an event on my computer, and took it upon himself to commandeer my astrology software and to “turn off” Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.
“They don’t exist,” he told me.
“Right…” I said (not really agreeing, but being polite since he was a guest in my home!)
I was reminded of this encounter this week while observing a thread on a traditional astrology list (I am not a traditional astrologer, somewhat obviously, but I don’t throw the baby out with the outer planets bathwater…)
There was a thread where one astrologer was reminding another astrologer that, to all intents and purposes, when it comes to traditional astrology, “Neptune doesn’t exist”.
Some Flat Earthers say the same thing.
This raises an interesting question (or 300)
In 2019, there are not one, not two but SIX massive Neptune transits. In fact, Neptune is arguably one of the biggest astrology “influencers” of 2019.
Presumably, the traditional astrologers are going to ignore these.
But can they really?
It seems to me that 2019 will be the year when we will see for sure if Neptune exists or not, astrologically-speaking.
Either we will see plenty of Neptunian-type events and developments or we won’t.
So now we will wait and see.
For modern astrologers such as myself, Neptune is about the Divine, about dreams and deception, about healing and confusion.
It’s a spectrum with altered states caused by meditation at one end and altered states caused by drugs and alcohol at the other.
It can mislead. It can inspire.
A conversation about if Neptune exists or not is so Neptunian, it’s meta!

However for traditional astrologers, Neptune effectively doesn’t exist. So will we all feel the 6 major Neptune alignments – or won’t we?
We can only wait and see.
