I remember when I studied economics, so much of it was about needs and wants. It was as though every move had to be made based on whether it was something wanted or needed with the implication that having wants was bad. Essentialising was seen to be good and anything else, frivolous. Right now, you need to come up with your own qualifications of a need and want, and it will be most likely not what you thought it was.
