Here comes the Venus transit across the Sun* – it’s going to happen in about three weeks from now, on June 6 2012, as a part of the Venus Retrograde we’re currently in.

It’s potentially an amazing thing. I know you probably want to hear about what Venus rx is going to mean for your sign (you can find that out here).

But – call is self-indulgent, and I know some of you will – I wanted to take a chance to reminisce about the twin of this occultation by Venus of the Sun. That took place back on June 8 2004. Can you remember where you were?

At the exact moment of the occultation, I was in one of my favourite places in the world, on the Pont des Arts footbrdge, in the city of love and light, Paris.

I remember one very cynical astrologer writing that people were OH so wrong when they said that this occultation was something connected to the power of the Divine feminine.

At the time I wondered how he thought he could second-guess God. Venus is the feminine, the Sun is the masculine. Who was he to say that their rare two-part meeting had nothing to do with the divine masculine and feminine energies?

For me, funnily enough, it turned out to be OH so much about the Goddess. Not long after that amazing moment on the Pont des Arts, I went from being not terribly connected to the Divine Mother to a true devotee.

So let us wait and see what this occultation brings us all.

One mantra I have learned in the time since the 2004 occultation is the one I repeat a lot here on this site: Om Namo Narayani. It means “I surrender to the Divine Mother”. And the Divine Mother loves to look after her children.

* A transit of Venus occurs when Venus is observed to move across the face of the Sun. The first transit since 1882 occurred on 8 June 2004. The next transit will occur on 6 June 2012, and be visible in Sydney from beginning to end, starting at 8.16am (1st contact) and ending at 2.44pm (last contact). The next transit of Venus won’t occur until 2117.

Regular readers will know I have a deep love of all things French, so I couldn’t help but be curious about France’s new President François Hollande.

I asked Australian astrologer Hedy Damari to have a look for me – I think you will agree, it’s all rather fascintating, especially that Venus on his ASC while he was on the hustings! Lucky him!

François Hollande was born with his Sun, Pluto and Mercury in dynamic Leo, giving a persuasive personality and talent for effective communication. Having his Ascendant in expressive Gemini further enhances his gift of the gab. His Moon is in determined, ambitious Capricorn which, along with serious Saturn in his sector of industry, reflects a very strong work ethic.

François’ Venus is in Libra, (a sign that commonly pops up in the charts of politicians as it’s associated with diplomacy), blesses him with grace. However with Mars in Sagittarius he is also bound to be very passionate about his convictions!

During the month leading up to the election, the stars certainly were stacked in his favour – Venus transiting his Ascendant and First House boosted his popularity. Mercury was trining his natal Mercury, Sun and Pluto whilst traveling through his sector of aspirations and socialising. This elevated his people skills and allowed him to clearly state his goals.

On the day of the election, a Full Moon provided the clincher by illuminating his natal Saturn, the planet synonymous with authority. He clearly has all the makings of a leader.

However, with a preponderance of Leo placements there’s a risk of becoming arrogant and opportunistic, so his long-term success hinges on whether or not he can maintain the regal yet authentic qualities that won him the election in the first place.

The planet of communications, Mercury, is in great shape, which means that we down here on Earth should find it easier to tell others how we feel.

This can relate to a declaration of love but it’s also about bringing people up to date with our emotions. Once people know what we are feeling, they are better able to help us get what we want.

In particular, this week is very good if you need to move on from an argument or hurt. There is a truly awesome “formula for forgiveness” which was written by a man called Charles Fillmore, and which I have slightly modified here:

“I forgive everything, everyone, every experience, every memory of the past or present that needs forgiveness. I forgive positively everyone. I also forgive myself of past mistakes. The source is love, and I am forgiven and governed by universal love alone. This love is now adjusting my life. Realising this, I abide in peace.”

Because the planet of love, Venus, is going into one of her rare reverse cycles, it’s an especially good time to think about past loves which hurt and to release the pain, int the lead up to next week’s eclipse in the same part of the skies.

The new high: buzzed, not blitzed

Trend alert … conscious communing is increasingly popular. From the Sydney Morning Herald.

Instead of going out to get blitzed, they’re going out to get buzzed and instead of ending the night unconscious, they’re ending the night more conscious.

Projects like The Conscious Club, Soul Sessions and Wake Up Sydney! have all started up in the past couple of years and they’re all growing increasingly popular. In fact, if you’re not fast it’s bloody hard to get a ticket – their events all sell out, often within a couple of days.

Primarily because they’re fun. There’s good food, a far friendlier (but, just as pretty) crowd than average for Sydney and anything and everything from live music to movies, meditation to circus acts and even laughing yoga. And at each event talented talkers take to the stage to share their ideas and inspirations. Topics range from science to inner-silence, entrepreneurship to enlightenment and everything in between.

It’s a refreshing change from the bog standard of going out and getting belted.

And that is indeed the point. The founders of The Conscious Club say they were sick of the same old pub or club routine where they would yell at each other for hours before going home with nothing to show for it except a hoarse voice and a hangover.

Just twelve days after the inception of the idea, they held their first event late last year. Two hundred people packed out the venue in Bondi. To cater to growing demand, they are already set to move to a bigger space.

Founder and renowned meditation teacher Tim Brown says attendees are the full age spectrum and around a 50/50 split of men and women. He believes the events are so popular because they allow people to engage and feel energised.

“People are just sick of the groundhog experience – which is, to go and commune with people, I’ve got to go down to the pub and downgrade my consciousness in order to have a kind of unified experience,” he says. “Our thing is, instead of having a shared low-grade experience, let’s create an environment where you can have a high-grade and elevating experience.”

This is a great week for communications regarding love and money, or about anything that is close to your heart.

The planets Mercury (communications and trips) and Venus (love and abundance) are linking together on Friday. This means that between now and then is an ideal time for talking about anything you value, be it a friendship or a physical item.

What is extra useful about this link is that it offers a second chance. If there is something you have been meaning to say about, for example, your pay or your love life, now is your chance.

When Mercury links to Venus, Mercury will be going over the same ground it covered recently during the Mercury retrograde cycle. So whatever you chickened out on saying? Say it now.

This week is also the lead up to the full Moon, which will take place next Sunday in Scorpio. Emotions will be running high as we get closer to the weekend. Emotions tend to be more intense around the full Moon and when the Moon is in Scorpio, we are talking serious heat.

If you are angry with someone, your best bet is to use the first half of the week to let it out, rather than allowing it to explode in a full Moon frenzy.

This actually works very well with the current astrology, I am glad to say! In a few days, the planet of the mind, Mercury, will link to serious Saturn, the planet that likes to set things in stone.

This really is the ideal time to get clear on our intentions, so Saturn can help us to concretise them. And (as most moonology readers surely know by now, there is nothing as powerful as a clear intention!)

One of the best ways to get clear on your plans and intentions is to write them down. Leave the list somewhere you can see it. You will be amazed at how well this strategy works.

For what it’s worth, I did this at the start of 2011 – ie,I wrote down some pretty big plans on a scrap of paper which I stuck on my office wall. I actually did it so that I would remember my plans, to get clear on them, as much as as a manifesting exercise.

I realised the other day, most have materialised and the ones that haven’t are in the pipeline! Apparently, it’s all about intention! Use Mercury/Saturn now to get “crystal clear” on your intentions.
